Cold chain, explained: how your insulin gets to you still cold
Temperature excursions spoil more medication than most patients realise. A look inside the logistics that keep biologics viable.

Insulin, most vaccines and every biologic share a constraint: they degrade when warm, and the damage is invisible. A vial that spent six hours in a hot delivery van looks exactly like one that did not.
Every HealthSpire cold-chain parcel ships with a single-use temperature logger. If the internal reading leaves the 2–8°C band for longer than the product's stability window, the parcel is quarantined on arrival and replaced at no cost.
Couriers carry phase-change packs rather than dry ice for most routes. Dry ice is colder than required and can freeze insulin, which ruins it just as thoroughly as heat.
What patients can control matters too. Do not store insulin in the fridge door, where the temperature swings every time it opens, and never in the freezer compartment.
